Engineering Initiations
Heidi Hi!
I have survived the engineering initiations without throwing up. And since I was one of 7 out of 15 who turned up – three of which threw up – I can sleep happy in that knowledge.
Oh deary me. The drinking was fun, but if I’ll survive is a completely different matter. I have a 9am exposition lesson tomorrow, making things even more fun. Especially as I think of the person who keeps distracting me from every single task I try and complete. Drunkenness is never good. You start talking about things you wish you didn’t. Which is why I shouldn’t be writing this now, but what the hay?!
Still, it’s been a good night. A fantastic night, if you will. It’s been an unbelievable week or two, as things have really come to the boil. I’ve managed to learn a lot about myself, a lot about others, a lot about what people think about me. I have been flattered over what people have made about me in the last few weeks, and I’m privileged of that fact.
It has been magnificent. Simply that!
Ta taa for now

It Finally Happened!!
Well it had to happen, didn’t it?
Six months of speculation.
Four months of a sweepstake.
And finally, our best efforts have finally come to fruition!
Kyle and Soph are now, at long last, as one.
This breaking news is brought to you by the one person who probably aggravated them the most in their “courtship” and was very pleased when they decided to stop sharing their tongues to tell him the glorious news. As I bounce about at my desk, leaving my friends in confusion as I ran down the stairs shouting “It’s finally happened!” back at them to explain my sudden disappearance.
A six month crescendo to the inevitable lead to a sweep stake in their third month as we got tired of them saying there was nothing going on. Something had to break, and we nearly all put money on that fact. Expecting it to run and run, and Pete Thornley to collect the entire 70 pence jackpot after 12 months, no one gave second thought to the glorious sweepstake. But now, only four months in, we have a winner. Or, well, a pair of winners.
Rose and Niksa lay their claim to the entire 70p winnings fund to be shared equally between them. We make it about a Mars bar each, you’ll be glad to know. Monies will be collected and dished out again over the glorious Christmas period, but I’m off to buy some random people drinks for random people who they don’t know!
Bask in the news and don’t forget to offer them your congratulations.
See you at Christmas!
Paul
A Visitor!
I wont bore you with all the silly details of what’s happened and taken place since my last post on this very site – or The Friday E-Mail for that matter. It’s hasn’t died as of yet, but I think it may be on its last legs. If YOU wish to help the cause on Friday, then send something out by all means, but don’t let it ruin any significant parts of the day, like bar-time, drinking-hour, a-spot-of-beveraging, or any of this endless fun! Hehe.
No, I shall refer only to the weekend just past. Mainly because it was just so magical for one reason and one reason only – Soph came down to see me. In desperate need of a break from macro-writing and number-crunching, I picked up a very weary Soph from the train station on Thursday evening and made an attempt to give her the weekend she so really needed. And, with her efforts as well, I think we succeeded.
Greeted with the randomness of someone throwing a cupcake from one room into the room directly above through their windows, it was always going to be good. I treated her to the most randomness I could in the first evening and there was a lot of it.
Day two, whilst I went to 9am lectures; she stayed in bed until 11, had a relaxing bath and after lunch went shopping whilst I had – wait for it – more lectures! Eeee, it’s fun! For the evening, we had the drunken formal experience, something which everyone should enjoy at some point! Trust me. It’s more a drinking session than a 3 course meal with coffee. I was prime penny target and had more than just one bottle of wine in little over an hour. They were coming from all sides, including Soph. We got her back though by filling her glass and pennying it whilst out of her reach. Cruel but it had to be done at some point. So, a little drunk, we staggered off to the bar before going to someone’s room and finally ending up at mine for sleep. Rounding off a pretty drunken evening, really.
Day three – it’s only Saturday – but I had work to do, so she toddled off all the way to Girton to see an old friend. Then in the evening, she went to see her beloved cousin, which was definitely good fun for her, which made me a happy bunny. More drink followed when she returned into my care, of course and then wine when back at my room – it was left from formal – and we just stayed up enjoying the company. Magic.
Day four, and it was sadly time for her to head back up to Chester. After the late night of the night before, it was a late morning as well, but we made the train – just. The end of a fantastic weekend in her fantastic company and what a relieving weekend it was from the normal strain and hassle that just seems to never end!
